The gemstone market is filled with creative trade names for this material, which can sometimes cause confusion for buyers. While you may encounter terms like sakura rhodonite or cherry blossom rhodonite, these all refer to the same or similar forms of rhodonite in quartz. It’s important to note that this material is frequently enhanced or imitated, so purchasing from a reputable and transparent seller is always recommended. There is one resource which believes that are pressed versions. While it is clear there are dyed or otherwise enhanced forms on the market, we have not found evidence of a “pressed” material or another in which quartz is blended with remains from rhodonite being worked. This could be a fact, but we were hard pressed (pause for eye-roll to punny dad joke) to find a corroborating paper, article, or other resource. What sets rhodonite in quartz apart is its increased clarity compared to traditional rhodonite, along with the striking patterns created by black and brown inclusions within the pink stone. We took a good, but not scientific, look at these bracelets. There was no indication of dyeing, as we could not find any dye held in natural fractures. However, one of these (as shown in the picture) is much lighter and has less black and brown inclusions. It is common to find variation among stones of the same type. As always, we encourage you to purchase whatever gemstones you like whether treated, untreated, or unknown. Just find your joy!
