Ocean jasper is actually orbicular jasper that is found along the northwest coast of Madagascar and other regions. It is known for its unique and colorful orb-like patterns, which can include many different colors. The most common are deep greens, white, red, and yellow. Some pieces of ocean jasper may appear translucent due to the presence of agate or quartz within the stone. Although, there are some that have noted jasper inclusions, much of the mineral is not found with jasper at all. Orbicular jasper is not an approved mineral species and is described as:

“Orbicular Jasper is a name given to a highly silicified rhyolite or tuff that has quartz and feldspar crystallized into radial aggregates of needle-like crystals forming orbicular (spherical) structures.”

Since it is very clear that there is agate in these pieces, we have added orbicular agate to the metaphysical listings.

5. UV Notes: For gemstones, 365nm is the best for UV lighting. Only some specimens illuminate under the other part of this spectrum (370-400nm). This is why some pictures are not as clear for our UV reactive pieces. Our current lights are at 395nm. For home use, the 395nm is less expensive, but in some cases, will need a zoomed beam on the flashlight style UV lights. If you do use a 365nm light, please take care to use eye protection.
