The Many Names & Possible Inclusions in Plum Blossom Tourmaline

Right or wrong, this mineral combination has been referred to as rubellite in quartz, unicorn stone, plum tourmaline, and more. It does include rubellite (a variety of tourmaline) which is often red or pink, but has also been said to include the following: pegmatite, lepidolite, smoky quartz, clear quartz, cleavelandite (a variety of albite), mica, and other inclusions that arise from borosilicate, aluminum, iron, magnesium, lithium, manganese, sodium, and potassium. Plum blossom tourmaline is said to be mined in Madagascar. It is not recognized on its own on mindat.org. 5. UV Notes: For gemstones, 365nm is the best for UV lighting. Only some specimens illuminate under the other part of this spectrum (370-400nm). This is why some pictures are not as clear for our UV reactive pieces. Our current lights are at 395nm. For home use, the 395nm is less expensive, but in some cases, will need a zoomed beam on the flashlight style UV lights. If you do use a 365nm light, please take care to use eye protection.
