About Mookaite “Jasper”

Why is jasper in quotes above? It’s complicated. Quoted from mindat.org:

“The term ‘Mookaite’ is an unofficial, locally coined name for a silicified porcelanite which forms in the weathering profile of a geological formation known as Windalia Radiolarite (WR), a Lower Cretaceous sedimentary unit that outcrops over much of the Carnarvon Basin in Western Australia.

Mookaite is variously, and incorrectly, described as chert, opalite, chalcedony or combinations of the three.

From a strictly geological perspective however, Mookaite is best defined as a silicified type of Radiolarite whose silification is opaline to chalcedonic.”

So, what does this mean for its metaphysical properties? As you scour the Internet using your Google Fu, you will see that many of the associations are similar to those used in both color and Chakra therapies for red and yellow gemstones (Root and Solar Plexus). Some say this stone is also good for the Sacral chakra, calming, coping with grief, loneliness, soothing, animal communications, communicating and connecting with spirits, and meditation.

We recently found an expert on Mindat.org’s discussion who said that mookaite is primarily included chalcedony. We are going with chalcedony, since in the end, it is a silicified rock.
